Considered one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, Charles Eames was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Probably best known as the American designer of his generation, Eames was strongly influenced by the work of his uncle, the great architect William S. Eames. Despite his architectural studies at Washington University in St. Louis, Eames began to implement his ideas while he worked as a laborer at the Laclede Steel Company in his hometown. This is where he learned the manual labor and knowledge engineering, architecture and design, molding and processing techniques that made him famous in the future. Charles Eames and his wife Ray are both highly recognized internationally, particularly for their work in the field of modern furniture. Both famous for many projects, they won the award AIA Twenty-five Year in 1977 and the very prestigious Royal Gold Medal in 1979, a year after the death of Charles Eames. Their work is always exposed at the MoMA in New York, and in 1985 IDSA Eames called it "the most influential designer of the 20th century."

my niece, Emily. Her first birthday was 7 April. Emily isn't my real niece, but her mother and I have been friends since we were teenagers and we were roommates in undergraduate school (she was an English major and I the mathematics major.) So, I'm her Aunt Jane by life-long friendship with her mother. :-)
Emily such a little cutie-pie, too. We played together this afternoon for awhile. I read some stories to her and we played with a giant princess plush pillow I bought her for her birthday.
