Charles Eames
(1907-1978)

Charles Eames was born in St Louis, Missouri and is considered one of the most influential designers of the 20th Century, probably as a he most famous designers of his generation, the American Eames was beeinflussst early on by his uncle, the great architect William S. Eames. Despite extensive training during his studies in architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, Eames began to set in motion only to his ideas while he worked as a laborer at the Laclede Steel Company in its birthplace. Here, he learned first-hand about engineering, drawing, and architecture, and treatment techniques through which he later became famous. Both Charles Eames and his wife Ray are still in high demand on the international level, they are especially famous for their work in the field of modern furniture design. Both worked on numerous projects, the AIA Twenty-five Year Award in 1977 and the prestigious Royal Gold Medal Award earned in 1979, a year after Charles died. Her works are still presented at MoMA in New York, and in 1985 awarded the IDSA Eames the title as "The Most Influential Designer of the 20th Century".

Fixing an old rocking chair (x-post from crafts)
Hi,
i bought a really nice old vintage modern rocking chair off EBAY. the wood needs a good refinishing and / or polish.
hoping to get some input on the following!!
--how do i know if i need to refinish vs. polish?
--what polish should i buy? (it's a dark wood, but i'm not sure what kind. looks like walnut, but could be oak w/a dark finish?)
--how do i refinish it?
and a question re: the vinyl on it...there are a couple cigarette burnt holes in the vinyl. is there a way to fix vinyl?
thanks!
What do you call a chair for the living room
That would take the function of a lazy boy.
Anyone have ideas of a piece of furniture that takes this function that looks mid-century, perhaps slightly modern that does NOT look like a regular lazy boy?
Might consider a rocking chair. Needs to be comfortable but not into the jabba the hut couch potato look.
